Home at last! My return trip was much less smooth than I'd counted on... it took me about 36 hours from door to door.
I got stranded in Beijing when I missed my connecting flight to Brussels (Hainan Airlines) because my first flight from Wuhan to Beijing (Air China) was delayed almost 4 hours. What really pissed me off was that I might yet have made it but for a pair of major obstacles: I had to retrieve my luggage after the first flight (normally they get transferred automatically, but not here, oh no, that would be too convenient) and I had to change to another terminal (which is quite far away and served by shuttles that run only every 30 minutes after 11 pm). So I tried my best, I did, but I didn't have a chance in Tartarus, right from the get-go. When I arrived at 1:45 am, sweating and panting from running with 45 kg of luggage, at the check-in counter, they had already started boarding and said sorry, but it was too late to check in. The plane was still on the ground, but I had officially missed my flight. Very frustrating as I'm sure you can imagine.
What followed is a bit of a blur in my mind now, but here's a rough recap.
