I went to highschool with the guy who brews Brugse Zot! You're right, it's a bit light compared to the other ones, but it grows on you. I personally find it a lot better than Hoegaarden, say.

That's a pretty cool coincidence; I'd never heard of Brugse Zot, but I was intrigued by the name up on the bar board... And I'm glad I tried it! I'm serious about the noodle thing by the way, that's what I first thought of when I tasted it. I do intend to try it again on its own, because the more I think about it the more I believe my palate was simply too saturated aftre the meal and the Gulden Draak, which is kind of a hard act to follow on.

So yeah, I do think Brugse Zot has potential. But better than Hoegaarden? Them's fightin' words!

Ahh, mussels. As in "the mussels from Brussels"?

Actually, whilst up in Orkney, I was chatting to a Belgian archaeologist and asked him what the Belgian national dishes were - and he mentioned mussels a number of times.
